CCEGN5 | 5th Workshop on Critical and Collective Effects in Graphs and Networks, Cape Cod, 2022

About

Welcome to the official website of the Fifth Workshop on Critical and Collective Effects in Graphs and Networks (CCEGN-5). Similar to earlier CCEGN events (CCEGN-1, CCEGN-2, CCEGN-3, CCEGN-4), CCEGN-5 continues to explore topics at the interface between network science, random graphs, and statistical physics, bringing together world-renowned experts in these areas.

The workshop aims at facilitating the transfer of ideas, insights and interdisciplinary approaches to tackle new and exciting problems in random graph theory and its applications to real networks. As with some of the previous events (CCEGN-1, CCEGN-3), CCEGN-5’s primary focus is on mathematics of random graphs and complex networks. Topics include:

  • Entropy and counting problems in random graphs;

  • Random geometric graphs and latent geometry of networks; graph curvature;

  • Graphons and their generalizations; dense and sparse graph limits;

  • Exchangeability and projectivity in random graphs;

  • Large deviations, ensemble equivalence, and extreme value theory in networks;

  • Bayesian statistics and inference in networks;

  • Stochastic processes and critical phenomena in networks.

There are two traditional features of the CCEGN workshops that the past attendees praised and enjoyed: (i) the relaxed schedule of talks that allocates plenty of time for scientific discussions and exchange of ideas, and (ii) the high quality of the presentations -- all talks are invited and are given by top experts. The total number of talks is 20, four talks per day, and the duration of each talk is 1 hour including questions.

The workshop format provides an excellent opportunity for researchers at early stages of their careers to learn about recent cutting-edge developments in network science and random graphs. Thus PhD students, postdocs and young researchers working in these areas are encouraged to attend the workshop and to present a poster.

Location

The workshop will take place on June 6th-10th of 2022 (delayed twice from the original 2020 date due to COVID-19), at the Parish Hall of the historical St. Barnabas's Episcopal Church at a scenic location in Falmouth downtown on Cape Cod near Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Talks, poster sessions, and coffee breaks will all take place at St. Barnabas. A conference dinner will take place at a nearby restaurant in Falmouth downtown. The church is a six-minute walk from the hotel, and a twenty-minute walk from public beaches.

Lodging

The discount rate of $129 per night has been negotiated with the Inn On The Square, located at 40 North Main Street, Falmouth, MA, 02540. The discount rate will be available from when registration opens until April 14th, 2022. Any reservations outside of that date-range will be subject to normal hotel rates and availability. Participants planning on having an extended visit (arriving earlier than Sunday before the workshop or leaving later than Friday of the workshop) are recommended to book a room well in advance. Normal hotel rates will apply outside of the conference dates.

Participants unwilling to stay at the Inn On The Square for whatever reasons are still recommended to look for lodging in Falmouth, MA. The downtown area includes many restaurants, coffee shops and public beaches within walking distance. There are regular ferry services both to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island, both major tourist attractions, in addition to Cape Cod itself.

Getting there and around

To reach Falmouth, participants arriving from out of town at Boston's Logan International Airport will have the option of taking a Peter Pan bus service to Cape Cod departing from Logan Airport and arriving at the bus terminal in Falmouth, MA, which is right across the street from the Inn On the Square. If possible, renting a car at the airport is recommended, as it will allow for more convenient transportation between the airport and hotel, and around Cape Cod. Another option is to rent a bike at the Corner Cycle Cape Cod, again located near the hotel, upon arrival. The workshop space is a mere six-minute walk from the hotel, so neither option is actually required for daily transportation.
